Authentic

My Writing for Electronic Media final project had to be a 30 second promo for authenticity. It needed to open with "Authentic is as authentic does" and must close with "Authentic think about it". The opening and closing could be written, spoken, sang... as long as it opened and closed those lines. It also had to be exactly 30 seconds. Everything in between was up to us.

I chose to use lyrics from Tiesto's song Just Be. The video stars Lauren Wisniewski, Britt Clark, Kari Taylor, Dan Beringer and Maisie Leach.

Reality Journalist 2007

Clifford J. Levy

This was a video presentation for my reporting for the Public Good Class. We were asked to choose a journalist who we thought was the best in his or her field. We then had to give a presentation on why they were the best. The class votes to determine who is journalist for the semester. I chose Clifford Levy. Since I am not the best with powerpoint, I chose to do mine as a video. Check it out!

The Beaten Path

This is my most recent movie. It is a piece inspired by the author William Burroughs. The poem was written and spoken by Amy Papantonio.

Mattel

This was a response to the Mattels apology to China. We were instructed to capture the point at which Mattel realized they absolutely had to go through with it. I focused on the moments before the apology took place.

Hillsville Horror

This video is supposed to be a scary halloween movie. It ended up being inspired by my trip to Hillsville VA where I had to go for an absurd class.

Originally, there was no audio was recorded. I had to do voice overs and load it up with sound effects.

Jamestown, Let's Go

This was a short promo for Jamestowns 400th Birthday.

World Series

This project was a promo for the 2007 World Series: Rockies vs. Red Socks.

This is my attempt at being witty or clever... obviously the globe is the world, the Harry Potter books are a series, the stones are rockies, the argyle socks are supposed to be red and the "dumb girls" are Taylor, Steph and Lauren.

Trash The Axe

This was a project in sexual inuendo's. There is the belief that sex sells so we did a project on it. We found our inspiration in the Salt Lake City Symphony Marketing tactics.

My video is an ad for the Elon Blackbox theater. It is supposed to make fun of the Axe commercials by saying that girls don't like cheap cologne, they like classy guys. That meaning was lost when I couldn't find a boom box for the second guy to carry. He is supposed to be listening to classical music on his iPod. Hence the reason the girls jump him.

Get Classy

Same idea as before.

Love Story

This project was supposed to help an old book regain recognition. We were instructed to make Elon students aware of the book/movie through a promo.

Veterans Day Commercial

This is a thirty second commercial promoting student awareness of Veterans Day on Nov. 11, 2007. One student was supposed to be for the message of the art and one against. The idea is that the veterans have enabled us to enjoy the freedom to speak out whether vocally or by other type of expression.

Girls, Squirrels & Drinkin'

For this music video project, we were supposed to make our own country music video. It was supposed to have an Elon theme to it so I picked the three things that summarize life at Elon: girls, squirrels and drinking. My youngest brother Luke is lead vocals, Hannah and Alissa are the chorus. My neighbor Nick Barnes helped save the project by agreeing to play guitar. The band name Buena Vista Social was chosen because we live on Buena Vista Dr. and it fit... I randomly appear in the beginning because each student was required to make a cameo appearance.

The picture is a little smaller than usual because I edited it using HD software so it made the video widescreen.

Phoenix Card Commercial

This is a commercial for the Phoenix Card. We were supposed to have someone "lose a phoenix card" and the other person was supposed to find it. I figured a Cinderella theme was appropriate. Thanks to Grace Trilling (Cindy Rella), Kevin Swett (P. Charming Jr.), Mynt, and the Phoenix Card office for your help.

Signs

Signs is a project for my Psychology class. We were supposed to make a video catching peoples responses to a social norm being broken. People observe signs as an unspoke rule from a higher power and seldom often just take them seriously. We wanted to see what people did when the signs they saw didn't make sense.

Less Than Perfect *

No, I did not accidentally post the same movie twice. This version of Less Than Perfect was my third and final video for DMC. In our final movies, we were supposed to throw together everything from the first two projects and include music, sound effects, and still images with motion effects. Our flicks were to be 3-6 minutes. I was actually fairly pleased with the results but I can't take all the credit. My friend Nick Leopold included me in on a few fun tricks. I think you will be able to see a noticable difference from the first movie to this.

Less Than Perfect

This movie was supposed to be telling a narration using still photography. I felt that telling the story of the Kool-Aid Man using still photographs may be too much of a challenge so I decided to tell a different story. We were required to make a 2-4 minute movie using at least 15 pictures. This time we were supposed to use voice overs (in other words, this was an introduction to digital cameras and mic's).

The Kool-Aid Man

This was the first movie I made in Digital Media Convergence. It's fairly basic; it was almost an introduction to the use of the video cameras and final cut pro. We were required to video tape a person telling a 1-3 minute short story. We needed to include a wideshot, medium shot, and close up. It was actually pretty rough, especially since I had never edited a movie before in my life.

lauren powder Lauren powder

This picture (above, left) of Lauren was taken for the Less Than Perfect still photography movie I made. We were required to take at least two pictures and alter them in photoshop and make a slide show using the original picture and the altered picture. The picture on the right is the finished, altered version.

Rock on rock on
This picture is of Dan "rocking out" in his truck. As you can see, the original is on the left and the new version is on the right.

I accidentally photoshopped Dan out of the original picture and saved it so this image didn't make it into the storyline.
